General park information

Everything essential to understand what you are going to find and how to make the most of your visit to Iguazú Falls.

The Parque Nacional do Iguaçu , on the Brazilian side, offers one of the most stunning panoramic views of the Iguazu Falls . Its best-known route is the traditional waterfall circuit, a highly sought-after visit by those who want to appreciate the falls from a broad and photogenic perspective.

Although the main traditional trail on the Brazilian side is relatively short, the total visit time can vary considerably depending on your arrival time, visitor numbers, the internal bus service and busy periods such as long weekends, Carnival, Easter and school holidays.

In addition to the classic route, within the park there are also other trails and circuits included with the ticket, less known but interesting for those who have more time.

Internal park transportation

A key point to understand the real times of the visit.

The Iguaçu National Park has a system of internal buses that connect the entrance to the main points of the route.

This is the most common way to get around the park, as private vehicles are not allowed in most of the protected area. You can also explore some areas by bicycle , using the designated cycle paths for a more independent experience.

Important: the use of the bus is already included in the price of the ticket, so you do not have to pay anything additional within the park.

The buses operate continuously during opening hours, but at times of high demand queues or delays may occur , which directly influences the total time of the visit.

Therefore, even if the main traditional circuit is short in distance, it is always advisable to consider these times to better plan the route.

Tip: If you can enter the park early, you will normally avoid more waits and enjoy the tour more peacefully.

Key: the path is linear. You get off at the stops depending on what you want to do and you can take the bus again inside the park. When purchasing the ticket you are assigned a turn to take the bus from the Visitor Center, but once inside the park you can board the next bus available at each stop to continue your visit.

Traditional circuit of the Falls on the Brazilian side

The most popular course in the park: short in distance, but not always fast in real time.

The main route of the Iguaçu National Park consists of a path of approximately 1.200 meters with different panoramic viewpoints of the falls.

This circuit has some sections with stairs, but its general difficulty is low and can be done without problems by most visitors.

At the end of the route you access a walkway of approximately 300 meters , fully accessible by elevator, from where you can get one of the most impressive views of the Devil's Throat from the Brazilian side.

Important: when it is said that the Brazilian circuit is “shorter”, it refers mainly to the distance of the main traditional route , not necessarily to the total time that the visit will take.

The actual time can vary considerably depending on arrival time, visitor numbers, waits for the internal bus , queues at viewpoints and busy dates such as weekends, long holidays, Carnival or Easter.

Therefore, even if the walking distance is not extensive, it is advisable to calculate the visit with margin and not assume that it will always be resolved quickly. Under normal conditions, many people allocate about half a day to enjoy it peacefully.

Important: this traditional circuit is already included with the entrance to the park.

Tip: Although the main traditional circuit is relatively short in distance, it is advisable to plan your visit with margin, especially on weekends, holidays and dates of high demand.

Brazil vs Argentina: how to understand the difference

The most useful comparison is between the main traditional circuit of Brazil and the traditional circuits of the Argentine park.

Brazil Park

The Brazilian side stands out for its traditional panoramic route , where in a relatively short distance you can get wide and very photogenic views of all the falls.

In addition, the park also has other trails included with the entrance, although the classic circuit remains the best known and done by the majority of visitors.

Argentine park

The Argentine side offers a more extensive experience in terms of traditional circuits , with different routes that allow greater immersion within the surroundings of the falls.

Therefore, when many people compare both parks, they are actually usually contrasting the main traditional circuit in Brazil with the main traditional circuits on the Argentine side .

Useful fact: If your travel allows it, visiting both sides is the best way to have a more complete experience of the Falls.

Banana Trail (Trilha da Bananeira)

A good option for those who want to connect with the jungle beyond the traditional circuit.

It is a route along a trail of approximately 1,3 km (2,7 km round trip) within the Iguaçu National Park, which leads to the banks of the Iguazú River.

The walk can be done either on foot or by bicycle, allowing you to observe various species of fauna and flora native to the park, in direct contact with the jungle and the natural environment.

Few visitors know it , and that is precisely why the experience is usually calmer. The Trilha da Bananeira is interesting for those who have more time and want to complement the classic visit with a less busy area.

Access: from the stop Macuco Safari .

Difficulty and duration

The difficulty is low. The estimated time is around 2 hours, depending on the pace of each person. You can explore it on foot or by bicycle.
